Character Challenge: Anna Salorene #2 (Personality) Friday, Jun 30 2006

Anna Salorene is shy, though not timid. Whenever possible, she interacts with computers and machines rather than actual people. After all, you always know what to expect from a machine or computer - they don’t become emotional or have bad days to take out on others. Anna has very few relationships - preferring to keep most people at a distance. She is polite, if somewhat distracted, most of the time. Often she gives the impression of being somewhere else mentally. Video and PC games are her escape of choice - and she escapes her normal, boring life as often as she can. Rarely does emotion seem to touch her, at least at work, though there is definite annoyance visible when processes or goals are changed midstream or she is unable to complete her work due to unforeseen circumstance.

Character Challenge: Anna Salorene #1 (Physical Description) Wednesday, Jun 28 2006

Okay, here’s the 1st of the new character descriptions, finally ;-) I know it’s not prettily written, but if I didn’t get it posted, I was going to lose it.

Name: Anna Salorene
Gender: female

  • Tends to carry 10-15 extra pounds due to the time spent sitting in front of a computer or game console.
  • mousy brown hair, lacking luster and cut in a chin length bob
  • average height
  • chocolate brown, wideset eyes
  • slouched posture
  • clothing outside work - jeans or sweatpants with t-shirt or sweatshirt
  • complexion - prone to minor acne outbreaks due to her diet and lack of time spent outside.

As the Words Flow Thursday, Jun 8 2006

I’ve updated the progress meter for Dawn. Got another thousand words down and to the end of the second chapter as the outline currently stands! I’m still not sure that I’ll make the 75,000 word goal on the first draft, but we’ll see.

Things are going to be hectic over the next couple of days, so I don’t know how much time I’ll have to post or write, but I’ll do my best to at least get some work done on the character challenge :-)

Words for the Week - or What I’ve been up to lately! Wednesday, Jun 7 2006

I’m getting back to work on the character challenge. Don’t know if Gemini intended it or not, but she didn’t exactly set me an easy task - not if I’m going to justice to the challenge anyway. At least there’s not much likelihood of this character needing her own story or finding her way into any of my existing ones!

Seeing as we’re trying to get more visits to YourCre8tivity.com, I decided to participate in a group project that Darren Rowse has going over at ProBlogger - if you want to see the goals for YourCre8tivity set in very bad verse by yours truly, you can do it here.

I’ve done some work on Dawn and will post an updated progress meter tomorrow. A character who was supposed to have a bit part made it known the other night that he intends to wreak a bit of havoc rather than quietly fading away. Not sure exactly how I’ll work it in, but I’ll figure something out.

As if that wasn’t enough (lol) I have two short story ideas that I want to work on - both of them are rather old, but I lost all my notes on one of them - so I’m trying to recreate as much of it as I can.

Oh yeah… I’ve also been looking into various writing, art and creativity sites….

Character Challenge: Character #2 Wednesday, Jun 7 2006

Gemini has given me my marching orders for my next character -

A normal female, not overly pleased with her current life, who finds herself within her favorite video game.

It would be a lot easier if I could actually choose a favorite video game. My possible selection choice isn’t all that large, since I don’t play a lot of video games. I take the easy way out and have her end up in The Sims 2. I play that one on a fairly regular basis. ;-)

Do I make this character into a game fanatic? Someone with a normal job and only a decent interest in gaming? This is the kind of decision that will affect her appearance and set her personality.

Hmm….. looks like I have some decisions to make!

Character Challenge: Aiden Domhnull - #6 (Miscellaneous) Monday, Jun 5 2006

Miscellaneous stuff about Aiden:

Despite his career choice, at heart Aiden is a good person.? Part of his aloofness is due to the fact that when he does give his trust to someone, he does so completely.? Because of this, he is slow and cautious to do so.

The only parts of his career choice that he actually considers work are the meetings that he has to have for specification and payment.? Actual fabrication of the items he sells is as much a hobby as anything else.

As well as mechanical and electronic tools, during the past few years, Aiden has learned a fair amount about computers and programming.

Character Challenge: Aiden Domhnull - 5 (Current Circumstances) Sunday, Jun 4 2006

well, Aiden is definitely a continuing character, though at least he seems to making himself a part of an existing story rather than demanding one of his own! I didn’t think he would fit into that particular story, but he says otherwise, and after looking at the circumstances, there’s a definite need for someone of his abilities there.

A few years ago, Aiden moved across the seas, to the States. For a time, he made his home in New York City. Although business was good, the city was too crowded, loud and bright for his likes. He took advantage of the opportunities that came his way and now owns three small houses set on the outskirts of average towns. One is in the southeast, one in the mid-west, and the last is located on the west coast, giving him a wide base of operation.

Aiden seems to have found a way to soothe his conscience, at least for now. Though he still actively creates tools that are designed to break or circumvent the law, he is very selective about who he sells them to. In fact, Aiden is very selective about who he even agrees to meet with. Might does not always make right, and in this country, at this time, there is a very definite skewing of the balance.

For now, he stays on the outskirts, providing only tools and doing so under various alias. He hopes to remain on those outskirts, unrecognized as a player in the dangerous game that swirls around him.

Writing Update Sunday, Jun 4 2006

As you may have noticed, I haven’t posted in a bit.? That’s because things have been a tad busy - I’m in the process of buying a house and will close on it on Friday (June 9).? With everything that has had to be done, something had to give, and in this case it was the writing.? It hasn’t become habit yet to write everyday. This is something I’m working on and hopefully I will see the progress as the story grows.? I will make a more concerted effort to work on Dawn and to post more regularly.

In the meantime, I have done a little bit of work on Dawn and updated the progress meter in the sidebar.? This is only the first draft, but the story itself seems to be flowing fairly well, even if some of the characters are surprising me.
