My name is Jennifer Baker and I am a project manager for a software company. :-)

Creativity has always been a part of my life - of course, so has procrastination, though I’m getting better about that! I’ve been reading ever since I can remember, and I started writing early on. Sewing, cooking, a bit of carpentry and jewelry making…. a touch of computer programming and web-design. I’ve even made short trips into the areas of short films and 3D animation.

Of course, I usually go about things in a strange, twisted kind of way.

Take my current job - I’ve wanted to be a project manager since I was in high school. But its a hard profession to get into. Most employers want you to have a certification and you need experience to get the certification. Your classic Catch-22, you know? So I decided that I would be a teacher instead. I got a degree in History and then, during my student teaching, found out that I’m not really cut out for the public school system. So much for that career choice!

So, what did I do? Applied for a job with a large insurance company as an admin assistant. What did they hire me as? A billing reconciliation specialist! I did that for two other companies over the next several years and then found myself unemployed in a city with next to no job market.

I decided to move - to Texas. Unfortunately, the job market wasn’t much better - so I went back to school to get an Associates degree in Multimedia Design. I got what was supposed to be a part-time job as a Quality Engineering Intern with a company that writes talent management software. That part-time job quickly turned into a full-time internship.

Last June, the company was bought out. The management of the new company decided to keep me on - and gave me the opportunity to get some experience as a Project Management Intern. *grins* In January, they hired me on as a regular, salaried employee and Project Manager.

A long, roundabout path to the profession I’ve wanted for over half my life. lol.

So, don’t expect normalcy from me or my endeavors - I happen to think that normal = boring.
